Measurements for Breeches and Trousers
Please email us the following 5 measurements:
waist - inseam - thigh - calf - out-seam
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Waist
For breeches and trousers measure your waist at the point where you want the top of the waistband to sit.
For a period correct look the waistband of your breeches or trousers should sit above your hip bones. We recommend getting your waist measurement at your natural waistline; the natural waistline is the smallest part of the waist and for most is at about 2" above the navel point and right below your ribcage.
2. Inseam
To measure your inseam start from the uppermost inner part of your thigh and measure down along the inner side of your leg to where you want your breeches to end.
3. Thigh
Measure the circumference of your thigh at the fullest point of your thigh. To get your thigh measurement wrap the tape measure around your thigh.
4. Calf
Measure the circumference of your calf at the point where you would want your breeches to end. To get this measurement wrap the tape measure around your calf.
For 18th Century breeches the Leg Band should sit right below your knee cap. If this is the look you want, place the tape measure just below your knee cap, and measure around your calf at this exact point.
For 17th Century Breeches and Sailor Slops the calf measurement isn't need it.
For trousers please get this measurement at the fullest point of your calf.
5. Out Seam
To get your out-seam measurement place the tape measure on either side of your body at the top of your hip bone and measure down along your leg to the point where you want your breeches to end.
For 18th Century Breeches we recommend to measure down to 1" below your knee cap.
For 17th Century Breeches we recommend 2" below your knee cap and for Sailor Slops 3" below your knee cap.
For trousers we recommend to measure down to 1-2" above your ankle bone.
These recommendations are only based on what we believe to be a most period correct impression. If your own research or group requirements do not align with our recommendations please follow your own guidelines when deciding the length of your breeches or trousers.
